100words: A weekly drabble challenge. 100 words exactly. A new prompt is posted every Tuesday.
anythingdrabble: A weekly drabble community where anything goes. The word count must be 100 words or a multiple of 100 up to 500 words. A new prompt will be posted every Monday.
dove_drabbles | dove_drabbles: A prompt challenge where the prompts come from Dove chocolate wrappings. Monthly prompts are posted in the beginning of the month.
drabble_zone: A drabble prompt challenge. Each entry must be exactly 100 or 200 words. Weekly prompts are posted every Saturday.
emotion100: A monthly multi-fandom drabble challenge. The prompts are based around emotions. Word count limit is 100 (or 100 x 3 etc.). You can post to the community's AO3 Collection. A new prompt is posted in the beginning of the month.
fan_flashworks: For all-fandom multi-media flashworks. Original works are also welcome. There is no word count limit. Prompts are posted on the 1st, 10th and 20th of each month. See the rules for more detail.
fandomweekly: A weekly multi-fandom prompt challenge. It also welcomes original work. The maximum word count is 1000 words. A new prompt is posted every Wednesday.
femslashficlets: A multi-fandom femslash prompt challenge. Word count limit is between 100 to 1000 words in length. Prompts are posted weekly every Monday.
fffc: Froday Flash Fiction Challenge. Every Friday the community will post some sort of challenge.
ficlet_zone | ficlet_zone: Prompts are alternated between song title prompts and reverse fandom prompts. No word count limit. Prompts are posted monthly in the middle of the month.
frozensnowfalls: A place for saving prompts from old LJ prompt communities that have since disappeared. Most of the saved prompts are prompt lists such as 15 candles, 30 touches, etc. It's useful if you are looking for prompt lists with different themes.
iconthat: An icon challenge community for all fandoms. A new challenge is posted every 2 weeks.
polyamships: A community celebrating positive portrayals of polyamorous relationships. A new prompt is posted on the 14th of every month. Runs Multiamory March. Also open to recs from members.
tinyfandomflash: A flash writing challenge for fandoms with 500 fics or less. A new prompt is posted on the 1st and 15th of the month. No deadline.
vocab_drabbles: A new college vocabulary word, unusual or uncommon word will be posted as a prompt every Friday. You can either write a 50-word to 1000-word long fic using the prompt, or use the prompt word in a sentence and post it in the comment. For more information, please see here.
whatif_au: A bi-monthly AU prompt challenge. No minimum word count. Any medium is welcome. You need to join as a member in order to see posts and leave comments.

allbingo: Sign-ups and posting are always open. Every month a member will post a new set of bingo cards on a specific theme. They have a longer list of DW bingo fest communities here.
comment_bingo: A multi-fandom bingo where you fill a bingo card by commenting on other people's works. See here for the rules.

ANNUAL EVENTS
amplificathon: A community to post anything and everything podfic-related. Runs Chromatic Characters Podfic Anthology, a collection of short podfics focusing on characters of colour.
awesomeladiespodfic: The annual Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology is a collection of short lady-centric podfics. It accepts submission from mid/late-January to mid-February. The anthology is usually released at the end of February.
bbtp_challenge: The challenge is to post something porny to your journal or favourite archive on September 1. All fandoms and original works are welcome. Any medium is welcome.
bethefirst: An annual multi-fandom challenge to write a fic of any length for a fandom that has zero fic. Each round runs from February to early May.
bethepod: A community that runs the annual Behind the Pod, a platform for podfic meta discussion. The event runs from January to June.
fandomgiftbasket: A multi-fandom gifting fest. People can leave requests/wishlists for others to fill.
halfamoon: Runs Half a Moon, a 14-day challenge celebrating female characters in fandom. Runs from February 1 to February 14.
intoabar: A multi-fandom crossover ficathon revolving around two characters from different fandoms meeting in a bar. Sign up to get your personalised prompt. Minimum 500 words for fic. Also accepts other medium. Runs from May to the end of June.
kimaracretak: Runs Bring Her Bleeding Heart to Me, a dark femslash prompt meme challenge that happens every February. 2022 marked the 4th round of the event.
launchtheship: An annual multi-fandom challenge to write a fic of any length for a ship that has zero fic. Each round runs from May to October.
rational_fiction_comm: An annual prompt meme fest centering fics in the style of rational and rationalist fiction. See here for more info. Usually runs from June to September.
reeltimefest: Take a movie and use it as an inspiration for a fanwork. See here for more information.
smallfandombang: An annual big bang for small fandoms. See here for the rules.
snowflake_challenge: An annual fannish event to celebrate the better parts of fandom and the people who make it that way. It runs throughout the month of January. Also have a friending meme at the end of the challenge.
spring_renewal: A prompt event happening in April. Submit a prompt or post a fill. There is no official claiming. Prompts are assigned to a particular posting date, and the idea is to post your fill for those prompts on their assigned date.
sunshine_challenge: An annual prompt challenge event. Each year there is a new theme. You can create anything you want using the prompts provided. It runs throughout the month of July.
threesentenceficathon: The Three Sentence Ficathon. Usually begins in mid-January or early February. The prompting period lasts for 30 days. Anyone can leave a prompt, and anyone can post fills. Fills can be longer than three sentences, and there is no deadline for fills.
unconventionalcourtship: An annual challenge for unconventional courtship. Posting usually happens in June. 1000 words or more. See here for more information.
OCTOBER & HALLOWEEN ANNUAL EVENTS
pod_o_ween: A Hallowe'en podfic event. "Tricks" are prompts that the mods provide in late September or on October 1. "Treats" are wishlists that anyone can leave for anyone to fulfil. Reveals happen on October 31.

adventdrabbles: An advent calendar prompt challenge in December. No word count limit.
fandomtrees: A multi-fandom gifting/wishlist event. Anyone can leave a wishlist, and anyone can post fills for any wishlist. Runs from November to the beginning of January.
holiday_wishes: Another winter holiday wishlist event. You can post up to ten wishes, and the wishes don't have to be fandom-related. Wishlist posting begins in November and ends at the end of December. Fulfilling wishes are open all year round. For the rules, see here.
newyearcntdown | newyearcntdown: A December prompt challenge. The theme is winter holidays and the end of the year. Sign up required. You can pick between four difficulty levels: post for 8 days, 12 days, 25 days or all 31 days.
MULTI-EVENT COMMUNITIES
elasticella: Runs several prompt meme challenges, ficathon and wishlist event on their personal DW blog throughout the year. Most of the challenges are femslash-centric. The ficathon tag is this one.
eventcentral: A community that runs several events throughout the year. Each event has a different theme. The general idea is that when you sign up, you will be given a unique prompt pertaining to the theme of the event. Their most recent event was "The Cocktail Hour".
fandom_empire: A community created in 2023. The mods plan to run 3 big challenges in 2023. Each challenge will run for 12 weeks. They are currently (as of January 2023) running Monopoly 01.23.
femslash_kink: A community that runs the annual femslash kink prompt meme/comment fic challenge in November. Fills are open indefinitely. They also run the annual Femslash Kink Exchange from April to June.
firewhiskeyfic: Get drunk and create a fic or an artwork. The community runs several rounds throughout the year. Prompts will be provided ahead of time for each round. You have 48 hours from the start time to finish something and submit it via email. No editing is allowed. For more information, see the profile.
hogwartstoalexandria: Runs prompt meme challenges on their personal DW blog throughout the year. The most recent one is Year-End Year-Start Prompt Meme.
no_true_pair: Runs two rounds every year, a mini round in March and a full round in August - September. When you sign up, indicate the four or eight characters you want to create works for. During the posting period, a prompt will be assigned for each posting date. The prompts will be along the lines of "character 1 & 2 goes out for coffee", and you will write something for it using the characters you've signed up for.
